The Extraction Manager for Coffee, Tea and Botanicals will support the operational team to deliver high levels of operational metrics through engagement and continuous improvement methodologies and ensure all Health and Safety, Quality and operational processes are in place, adhered to and optimized.

What you’ll be doing

• Manage the raw material supply chain and work in process (WIP) Levels.
• Understand the management of utilities, water, and effluent through achievement of department usage targets, discharge targets and support of the utilities function.
• Knowledge of coffee, tea and botanicals management information processes and systems using administrative procedures to maintain performance trends within the department.
• Supply chain interfaces and interactions are managed in conjunction with other department managers and constraints and opportunities are identified and prioritized to the benefit of the organization.
• Lead and manage plant, process, systems, people, and service requirements within the department.
• Interpret and build business case for opportunities relevant for the department (aligned to Business strategies).
• Plans for the execution of strategies are developed, documented, and communicated with timelines which enable the achievement of these strategies.
• Project work associated with strategic issues is conducted and the new standard /work practices are formulated in pursuit of operational excellence.
• Benchmarking is conducted to ensure alignment with current leading edge thinking in coffee brewing. Provide effective leadership and manage department to achieve operational performance targets
• KPI status and trends are communicated clearly and in a timely manner. Appropriate corrective management action is taken to prevent deviations from department target performance.
• Rapport with team members is achieved through visibility in workplace and active engagement with the workforce, ensuring a continuous improvement culture.
• Collaborate with all areas and build key relationships with Innovation teams, Commercial, Operations, Quality, Acceleration and Finance.
• Manage production to ensure conformance to specifications and standards are documented and understood by the team and these are rolled out and confirm to quality standard. Plans are developed and managed to ensure optimum capacity utilization as well as adherence to production plans by optimizing scheduling of materials and brewing activities to manage stock.
• Ensure effective roll out of World Class Manufacturing through effective organization design principles as well as implementation plans which are integrated into performance management to facilitate achievement of department operational targets. Identify and manage opportunities for improving department capability through systemic improvements to ensure that process capability is optimized.
• Lead the systemic application of asset management in the department through effective maintenance work and optimization of maintenance costs with a 3–5-year capex plan.
• Lead the quality and integrated management systems in the department to ensure that process and product quality remains controlled, whilst ensuring the integrity and quality analysis and associated systems related to this.
• Ensure compliance with the quality assurance systems, procedures and actions are managed to prevent recurrence of quality issues through the appropriate corrective procedures, in line with the quality assurance system.
• Audit review process and deviation management procedures are in place and are aligned to the global standards.
• Manage health, safety and environment and risk in the department
• Procedures for the safe working are managed in accordance with legislative requirements and up-to- date and understood by everyone in the department.
• Inspection of the plant and equipment are regularly carried out in accordance with the company and statutory requirements.
• Investigations are conducted for all incidents to establish root cause. Manage budgets and costs on the department
• Develop and submit the annual business plans/budgets for approval.
• Benchmarking against company and country performance standards and ensure departmental goals and action plans are developed and aligned with 3-year plans in support of the business strategies and initiatives.
• Management of people and resources throughout the department
• Training and development needs of employees are analyzed according to best practices and resourcing requirements.
• Recruit, motivate, train, and manage performance to develop a high-performance team
• Annual training plans reflect department requirement, and the appropriate resources are approved
• Competency is assessed and development is done throughout the departments.

What we’re looking for

• Bachelors Engineering degree in relevant discipline or relevant experience in food or beverage industry.
• Proven track record of HSE excellence
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and understanding of continuous improvement techniques.
• Knowledge of SAP and scheduling systems
• Proven ability to use the informal structure, dynamics, and culture of an organization to get things done.
• An understanding of BRC and Customer Quality Standards.
• Knowledge of working within a LEAN environment.
• Be competent in computer operation and produce reports, use email, and enter data as required (including the use of JDE system).
• Proven Production experience which demonstrates the ability to deliver a production plan effectively.
• Relevant industry experience specifically in coffee/brewing will be required, or experience in Food or beverage industry.
• A proven independent worker with strong creativity and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrable knowledge of product management and this benefits of this capability to the business
• Demonstrable knowledge of regulations, policies, procedures, and processes related to food science and product development.
