The Opportunity

The post holder will drive the implementation of the Procurement strategy for purchased products within their remit, supporting the global department and championing teamwork. Identifying new suppliers, developing cost-reduction initiatives, increasing efficiencies, and mitigating risk from a supply perspective are all integral to this role. There must be focus on sourcing from a global supply base, developing new, and nurturing existing supplier relationships to ensure sustainable and ethical supply of key raw materials whilst ensuring continuity of supply.

There should be cross-functional alignment with Validation and Innovation to procure coffee raw material on agreed/given technical specifications and quality requirements. Working in conjunction with Innovation to develop new products and reformulate current manufacturing processes to enhance commercial opportunities. Regular and proactive communication with all stakeholders, suppliers and key contacts within the business will be essential. Providing real time market updates as well as practical, innovative solutions to supply challenges and risks.

What you’ll be doing

• Develop, manage, and implement sourcing strategies
• Full procurement cycle responsibility and autonomy for sourcing of materials, placing emphasis on the right quality and timely arrival of goods
• Investigate and implement ways of reducing cost, including but not limited to, alternative supplier sourcing, increasing payment terms, negotiation, reformulation, process engineering
• Maintain awareness of market conditions and material supply issues, identifying and mitigating supply risk and communicating any pertinent information to relevant internal and external customers through proactive supplier communications
• Stakeholder engagement - advise and support stakeholders on business related matters to maximise value from commercial opportunities and supply arrangements
• Visit suppliers and customers where necessary and attend industry events as and when required which will involve international travel. Building and developing strong working relationships with suppliers and key stakeholders
• Utilise all resources and systems available, including JDE, to maintain optimal levels of inventory and ensure continuity of supply
• Provide education opportunities using all formats, including formal presentations. Sharing and maximising product knowledge within the business
• Identify unique raw materials for the development of products, partnering with the Procurement team to meet requirements
• Work with the Coffee category team and Innovation team in the planning of innovation priorities
• Participate in sensory evaluation of coffee projects, new products, reformulations, ingredient substitutions, and competitive products
• Partner with sales team members to identify and analyse consumer market trends that might provide increased sales and product development opportunities
• Perform such other tasks as are consistent with the general role description and job title, which may be subject to change from time to time

What we’re looking for

Essential Criteria:
• A minimum of 3 years Procurement experience in a complex buying role, or equivalent supply chain experience
• Commercial mindset with a strong focus on providing the best possible service to our customers, both internal and external
• Experience sourcing and buying Coffee from a global supply base
• Proven experience dealing with high value contracts and purchases
• In depth understanding of supply & demand and global supply chains
• Strong technical knowledge relevant to respective categories and portfolio of products
• Competent international traveller
Desirable Criteria:
• Experience of working within the Flavour & Fragrance industry
• Risk management experience or formal training would be advantageous
• Effective people management experience
• MCIPS qualified
• Degree in Chemistry, Food Science, or related subject
