The Opportunity

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of production operations within the food ingredients manufacturing facility. Working closely with the Plant Manager, this role oversees all shifts to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality operations that meet customer, regulatory, and company requirements.
The Operations Supervisor provides leadership, coordination, and direction to production teams, ensuring production targets, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and quality standards are achieved. This position also plays a key role in process optimization, training and development, continuous improvement, and maintaining a culture of safety and compliance with GMP, HACCP, and BRC standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

Operations Management
• Oversee daily operations of production areas, ensuring adherence to production schedules, quality standards, and safety requirements.
• Must be flexible with shifts and hours when required by business needs.
• Coordinate and monitor workloads across shifts, ensuring appropriate staffing and resource allocation to meet business objectives.
• Develop, implement, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for production processes, including distillation, blending, and packaging.
• Reviews, agrees and executes production plan. Updates Planning department and Departmental Manager with any foreseen issues with plan or delays in the plan
• Collaborate with Quality, Maintenance, Planning, and other departments to resolve production issues and ensure “right first time” execution.
• Monitor production losses, analyze root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions to improve yield and reduce waste.
• Ensure proper documentation, labeling, and traceability for all raw materials, intermediates, and finished products.
• Maintain a high level of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), 5S standards, and overall housekeeping within the department.
Safety & Compliance
• Promote and model a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with OSHA, HACCP, GMP, COSHH, EPA, and HAZMAT regulations.
• Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations; act as Site Incident Controller (SIC) when required.
• Ensure operators are trained and competent in safety-critical tasks, emergency procedures, and the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Oversee safe handling, storage, and disposal of waste in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
People Leadership & Development
• Lead, coach, and develop production operators and team leads to ensure skill growth, high morale, and effective team performance.
• Conduct regular one-to-ones, performance reviews, and training assessments to identify development needs and succession opportunities.
• Manage attendance, vacation, and shift coverage, ensuring adequate staffing levels across all shifts.
• Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement through open communication, recognition, and feedback.
• Partner with HR and the Plant Manager to address performance issues, disciplinary actions, and workforce planning.
Continuous Improvement & Performance Management
• Support and drive Lean initiatives, Continuous Improvement (CI) programs, and loss reduction strategies within the department.
• Utilize data and KPIs to monitor performance, identify inefficiencies, and implement process improvements.
• Maintain and update operational scorecards, visual management boards, and daily production reports.
• Participate in internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with BRC, customer, and company standards.
• Work collaboratively with leadership to improve productivity, quality, and operational safety metrics.

Education & Training

• High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in a technical or manufacturing discipline preferred.
• 3–5 years of supervisory experience in a food, chemical, or related manufacturing environment, or equivalent experience as a senior operator.
• Experience with JD Edwards (JDE) ERP system strongly preferred or ability to learn quickly.

Knowledge & Experience

• Solid understanding of food safety, quality systems, and regulatory standards including GMP, HACCP, BRC, OSHA, and EPA.
• Proven experience managing production operations, scheduling, and resource planning.
• Strong working knowledge of distillation, blending, or similar process manufacturing environments.
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, continuous improvement methodologies, and KPI-driven performance management.
• Experience with training programs, skills matrices, and operator competency tracking.

Skills & Abilities

• Solid understanding of food safety, quality systems, and regulatory standards including GMP, HACCP, BRC, OSHA, and EPA.

Working Conditions

This is a production environment that is cool in the winter and warm in the summer. Some duties are performed in cold rooms and freezers. At times this environment can be noisy, highly aromatic and wet. Most duties will be performed in an office or control room.
