Meet the UK Applications Team

We’d like to introduce you to the UK Applications Team, based at our headquarters in Bury St Edmunds. From left to right;

Lamia Gaman, Applications Technologist (Secondment - Applications Manager)
Applications became my permanent home

“I have been at Treatt for five years, but I have had the opportunity to work in quite a few departments. Fortunately, I discovered Treatt in my third year of Chemistry at the University of York, whilst looking for placements for my masters' year.

During my time here, I have worked in R&D as a research intern for a year and then I progressed onto the Technical Graduate Scheme where I had the opportunity to work in QC, Matching and Applications. From those short three months, I knew Applications was the place for me. I loved everything from the variety of projects that I worked on to the interactions I had with people internally and externally. In 2015, Applications became my permanent home and I haven't looked back since. To provide Karen with enough time to complete the project, I have been seconded into a managerial role.

I have a genuine love for all thing’s food and drink so in my spare time, I enjoy exploring food markets, festivals and hot spots in London to uncover new creations.”

Magda Baczewska, Applications Technologist
As part of my development, I was able to spend over six months in different departments

“After I graduated from University with an MSc in Environmental Sciences, I decided to start a new adventure in the UK, having grown up in Poland. My first job was in the cosmetics industry. After two years, I decided to look for something where I could be more involved with scientific studies and that's when I discovered Treatt. I began working as a Lab Analyst in Quality Control, mainly looking at GC traces. During my time at Treatt, I have worked in a different department, such as Agricultural Residue and Matching. As part of my development, I spent six months in the Applications Department, which was an eye-opener for me. I got lost in the world of flavourings and I knew that this is what I wanted to do. When the job opportunity arose, I sent my application through and got offered the position offered.

As an Applications Technologist, I develop and formulate new beverage concepts for customers, or work on existing bases by adding a ‘twist’, to take them to the next level. My role involves a lot of ingredients screening and tasting. My role is also to provide support for the sales department, by creating demos showcasing our ingredients, or assisting as technical support during customer’s visits.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending my time actively: biking, running or going for long walks in the countryside. I also love travelling! I enjoy learning about other cultures and familiarising myself with their cuisines. Every year I try to go at least for two exciting holidays.”

Matthew Day, Applications Technologist
Treatt has given me the opportunity to fuel my passion for food and beverage in industry

“I was born and raised in Bury St Edmunds. I went to University at UEA in Norwich to study a master’s degree in Chemistry for four years. After graduating, a course friend made me aware of a temporary year placement at Treatt investigating the use of HIC’s in applications. After I had completed my placement, I was lucky enough to be offered a permanent position in the Applications department where I have been to date. Since working for Treatt, it has given me the opportunity to fuel my passion for food and beverage.

In my spare time, I enjoy brewing my own beer. I keep active whether it be running, cycling or playing golf. I also enjoy travelling and exploring new cultures and foods.”

Karen Cocksedge, Applications Manager (Secondment – BOM Management)
I've had the pleasure of working at Treatt for the past 22 years

“I’ve had the pleasure of working at Treatt for the past 22 years. I joined Treatt straight from college after completing a BTEC National Diploma in Science and I spent my first eight years as a lab junior working in the pilot plant. I carried out small scale distillation and learnt all I could about essential oils before moving to R&D, where I stayed for a further eight years.

I made the decision to move away from R&D five years ago and focus on applications. It seemed like a natural progression to complete the product life cycle and to see how they performed in finished products. I’m currently on a secondment running a BOM (Bill of Materials) Management project, ensuring that all the products in our citrus portfolio are made in the most productive and safe way. This will, in turn, reduce handling costs and lead times, ensuring we can be more agile and responsive to customer demands.

In my spare time, I love to spend it going for long walks in the countryside with my dogs Marley and Molly. My favourite place in the world is the Lake District, and I have spent many holidays immersing myself in the beautiful scenery.”

Over 370 people work across our four sites and we’re continually growing. We are always on the lookout for bright and motivated people to join our global business. Find out more about life here at Treatt or discover our latest vacancies.
