Job title: Mechanical Engineer
Reporting to: Asset Care Manager
Location: Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk
Hours: 40 hours per week

The Opportunity

As a Treatt Mechanical engineer, you will be conducting installations, repairs and preventive maintenance to production-based plant, equipment and control systems ensuring that the manufacturing team achieve 100% compliance to the production plan by minimising engineering downtime.
This role is a Monday to Friday, 08.00 to 17.00 but could change to a shift role in the future. The role also requires monthly on-call responsibility on a rotational basis with the other members of the Engineering Team.

What you’ll be doing

The responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:

• Conducting installations, repairs and preventive maintenance to production-based plant, equipment and control systems with a Mechanical bias.
• Able to fault find at pace to quickly identify the reason for the failure and put a plan in place to recover.
• Lead safe working practices by always using the associated safe systems of work.
• Produce risk assessments and method statements for associated tasks.
• Fully use the Asset Care/CMMS system for the scheduling and recording of all work.
• Build relationship with Production staff to work as one team to achieve the KPIs.
• Able to identify and implement controlled changes to improve performance overall plant efficiency and production capacities.
• Use best practice methods to identify root causes and lead the resolution of equipment issues.
• Lead installation tasks.
• Develop and maintain engineering procedures.
• Diagnosis of machine and process faults including process equipment, pumps, valves etc
• Carry out daily checks on plant and machinery to ensure correct operation.
• Share best practise with other engineers and the operations team.
• Provide out of hours support on a rolling schedule.
• Work alongside and supervise external contractors, ensuring they work safely in line with site standards.
• Ensure compliance of Site Systems
• Contributing at a hands-on level to successfully deliver projects, including new product development, existing product development, cost reduction and product qualification
• Producing technical reports and studies

What we’re looking for

Ideally you will have a minimum of Level 3 City & Guilds/NVQ or equivalent. CompEx qualified (EX11), permit to work training, and a health and safety qualification such as IOSH working safely would also be advantageous.

In addition, we are looking for the following skills and experience:
• Experience working in industrial/commercial environment
• Desirable to have experience working in hazardous areas
• Able to interpret and create P&ID and schematics
• Ability to fault find, diagnose, and repair whilst working on own initiative
• Experience and knowledge of Nematic systems
• Working knowledge of diaphragm pumps, centrifugal pumps valves and actuators
• Ability to fault find and carry out mechanical repairs on a range of mechanical equipment (motors, pumps, valves)
• Able to understand, work to and have an input in the creation of Risk Assessments and Method statements
• Good understanding and maintenance of
• Take responsibility for the co-ordination of contractor works conducted in compliance with Health & Safety
• Demonstrate a working knowledge in Microsoft Office software i.e. Word and Excel
• Aptitude and willingness for continued training and development
