|
Tuesday, August 11, 2009 SAVOURY SPECIALITIES ON THE MENU FOR TREATT |
Global flavour ingredients supplier, Treatt plc, has expanded its range of nature-identical speciality chemical products for the formulation of savoury flavours. FEMA accredited, these latest additions to Treatt's portfolio add high impact top notes to the flavour profile of an array of finished foods. They confer an authentic and well-rounded aroma and can be incorporated at varying intensity levels depending on the desired impact.
Providing a roasted meaty odour, reminiscent of roast beef, 2,4,6-Trimethyldihydro-4H-1,3,5-dithiazine is found naturally occurring in squid, fried chicken, clam and peanut butter. It can be used at different dosage levels depending on the application. In snacks or sauces, for example, a dosage of 3-6ppm delivers a rich, meat flavour, while an intense aroma can be achieved in soups and seasonings at levels of 4-8ppm. Flavours for oils and fats require a dosage of 0.35-3.5ppm. 2,4,6-Trimethyldihydro-4H-1,3,5-dithiazine is also approved for use in China, Japan, Korea, Russia and Europe, which further enhances its global appeal.
Other products in the range include 2,4,5-Trimethyloxazole, a nutty option with green fruit tones which delivers an earthy potato-like and mushroom flavour, and 5,6,7,8-Tetrahydroquinoxaline which occurs in coffee and roast nuts and imparts a cheesy odour in bread, cheese and meat flavours. And, for tropical flavours, 2-(Methylthio)ethyl acetateis contributes tones of mustard, horseradish and wasabi at dosages between 0.01 and 5ppm.
Treatt offers over 300 speciality chemical top notes, including pyrazines, thiazoles and other sulphur, nitrogen and oxygen heterocyclic chemicals, manufactured by Endeavour Specialty Chemicals.

Thursday, June 11, 2009 TREATT ADDS A TASTE OF HONEY
|
Thursday, June 11, 2009 TREATT ADDS A TASTE OF HONEY |
Treatt plc, the world-leading independent flavour and fragrance ingredient specialist, has expanded its portfolio of innovative Treattarome™ 100% natural distillates with the launch of two new honey products. Honey Treattarome 9802 and Honey Treattarome 9804 deliver a sweet, honey flavour to a range of food and beverage systems without adding sugar or calories.
Wholly distilled from fresh honey, these ingredients impart an authentic, rich aroma, and provide an effective alternative to honey in sweet formulations. Each distillate confers a different nuance – Honey Treattarome 9802 offers a mild flavour profile and dark, smoky back-end notes while Honey Treattarome 9804 brings a light floral presence and delicate honey top note to flavour compositions. Both products can be used in a variety of applications particularly alcoholic and soft beverages including diet drinks, flavoured waters and juices plus bakery and confectionery applications. A minimum dosage of 25ppm is recommended.
These new distillates are water-based so are easily incorporated into food and beverage systems in the bottling plant – unlike highly viscous honey. In addition, they do not brown over time or physically interact with other ingredients in the formulation.
Honey Treattarome 9802 and Honey Treattarome 9804 are the latest introductions to Treatt’s extensive portfolio of Treattarome ingredients. Other products in the range include Honey Treattarome 9801 which provides an intense honey character in beverage and dairy applications, and Sugar Treattarome 9807, a 100% natural and sugar-free distillate for an authentic, sweet flavour.

|
Friday, May 15, 2009 TREATT TAKES THE LEAD WITH NEW LOW FURANOCOUMARIN CITRUS OILS |
Global flavour and fragrance ingredient specialist, Treatt plc, has launched an exciting new range of reduced furanocoumarin citrus oils, developed specifically for use in fragrance and cosmetic applications. Consisting of bergamot, lemon, lime and grapefruit options, this range of oils enables perfumers to use citrus oils creatively without exceeding furanocoumarin limits permitted in consumer products.
Treatt’s natural oils capture the characteristics of cold pressed oils whilst containing very low levels of furanocoumarins. Believed to cause allergic skin reactions, furanocoumarins are a class of organic chemical compounds from natural sources. The furanocoumarin content in cold pressed citrus oils has been a focus for the fragrance and cosmetics industry for some time. Treatt has used its expertise and proprietary technology to achieve a limited content of these particular molecules, broadening the possibilities for perfumers to incorporate true citrus aromas into their products.
Each product in the range confers an authentic aroma to a variety of cosmetic applications. The low furanocoumarin lemon oil, for example, demonstrates some herbal, green characteristics alongside the distinctive odour of fresh lemon peel, while the bergamot oil provides a rich, fruity and sweet cologne top note. Low furanocoumarin grapefruit oil is full and zesty, and the tangy lime oil is particularly suited for use in fragrances.
Organic versions of Treatt’s reduced furanounarin citrus oils are scheduled for launch in the coming months.
These oils are the latest addition to Treatt’s range of ingredients for the cosmetic market. These include chamomile oil, raspberry fragrance oil, organic Eartholates and a variety of low-allergen products.

Wednesday, March 25, 2009 EARTHOIL INDIA AWARDED FAIR FOR LIFE STATUS
|
Wednesday, March 25, 2009 EARTHOIL INDIA AWARDED FAIR FOR LIFE STATUS |
Organic oil specialist, Earthoil, a subsidiary of Treatt plc, has been awarded IMO (Institute for Marketecology) Fair for Life status for its Indian mint growing project (www.fairforlife.net). Granted by the IMO Social and Fair Trade Certification programme, this success reflects Earthoil’s strong values and commitment to ethical trading.[1] It also validates its position as a key supplier and producer of organic and fair trade ingredients into the cosmetics, flavour and fragrance sectors.
Fair for Life is a brand neutral third party certification programme for social accountability and fair trade in agricultural, manufacturing and trading operations. To achieve Fair for Life status, Earthoil India had to fulfil certain key criteria. These included guaranteeing good working conditions, respecting core labour rights and ensuring smallholder groups have a fair relationship with farmer organisations (or the contracting company) and the individual farmer. Earthoil’s Indian grower project received a full audit by IMO prior to the award.
Commenting on the accreditation, Campbell Walter, sales and marketing director, Earthoil, said:“We’re delighted to be awarded Fair for Life Status – it is a tangible acknowledgement of our dedication to ethical trading and practices. At Earthoil, we firmly believe that ethical trade and organic farming practices are inextricably linked. By offering our growers better trading conditions, we are contributing to sustainable development and securing the rights of producers, workers and their communities in developing countries.
“The establishment of the Earthoil Foundation is an example of our commitment to growers. Through this scheme, we ensure premium payments are made to our individual farmers for their organic products. Importantly, we also make payments into a community fund. The farmers then decide democratically how these funds will be spent within their community – whether on health, education or cultural enhancement.”
Hugo Bovill, managing director, Treatt plc, added: “I would like to thank the 600 farmers involved with Earthoil India. This award of Fair for Life status is a positive development for them and for Earthoil. This independent accreditation is a significant achievement and demonstrates that Earthoil is a leader in bringing to market organic and fair trade ingredients for use in the cosmetic, flavour and fragrance industries.”
Since its foundation in 2003, Earthoil India has grown steadily as a managed community project in Uttar Pradesh from 200 to 600 small-scale farmers. It was initially formed to manage Earthoil’s existing organic mint oil project and facilitate further development and sourcing of organic products from India. Now a firmly established organisation, the company’s ‘on-the-ground’ approach has resulted in Earthoil becoming a major supplier of organic and fair trade peppermint, cornmint (arvensis) and spearmint oils, menthol, rectified arvensis oil plus dementholised arvensis oil.

Tuesday, July 01, 2008 FOUR MORE FRUITY FLAVORS FROM TREATT
|
Tuesday, July 01, 2008 FOUR MORE FRUITY FLAVORS FROM TREATT |
Treatt plc, leading independent flavor and fragrance ingredient specialist, has unveiled the latest launches in its innovative, 100% natural TreattaromeTM range of clear distillates. Black Raspberry Treattarome 9846, Marionberry Treattarome 9848, Pear Treattarome 9870 and Papaya Treattarome 9835 are the most recent additions to Treatt’s expanding range of FTNF (From The Named Food) flavor ingredients. These new varieties offer flavorists added versatility to incorporate both unusual and traditional fruit flavors in a wide range of applications.
Black Raspberry Treattarome 9846 is wholly distilled from black raspberries, Rubus leucodermis or Rubus occidentalis, and delivers an authentic and well-rounded black raspberry character. The product provides a full black raspberry flavor profile with fruity and estery notes followed by a distinct, seedy character. Varying dosage levels are possible. At 0.1%, for example, it delivers an intense, seedy black raspberry character – fresh, creamy, floral, berry-like notes and fruity as a sole flavoring. At 0.05% or less, it confers a fruity, berry-like character with seedy undertones, which is excellent for fruit drinks.
A cross between Chehalem and Olallieberry blackberries, Marionberry captures the best attributes of both berries and yields an aromatic bouquet with an intense blackberry flavor. Distilled wholly from Rubus Eubatus cultivars (minimum 90% Marionberry), Marionberry Treattarome 9848 delivers a unique and complex flavor profile with an underlying earthiness, hints of sweetness and a lively tartness.
Pear Treattarome 9870 is distilled from European pears, Pyrus communis. From the fruit ester top notes to the warm succulent back notes, this essence provides a complete, well-rounded and fruity pear flavor to a wide range of applications, including beverages, dairy products and desserts.
Imparting an authentic papaya flavor to many food systems, Papaya Treattarome 9835 confers a tropical, fruity top note with a contrasting acid aroma for an authentic, full-bodied papaya profile.
All ingredients in the Treattarome range are extracted using Treatt’s specialized, proprietary technology to ensure maximum flavor entrapment. The resulting products are water white, high impact distillates which are entirely water soluble. Treattarome flavor ingredients are suitable for a multitude of applications including beverages, alcoholic drinks, dairy and confectionery products.
The latest launches complement the growing selection of products in the Treattarome range, including Cherry Treattarome Sweet 9850, Cherry Treattarome Sour 9851 and Apricot Treattarome 9853, launched earlier this year.

Wednesday, June 25, 2008 REACH - THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE
|
Wednesday, June 25, 2008 REACH - THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE |
Joseph S. Tomusange, REACH coordinator, Treatt plc
With first pre-registration fast approaching, manufacturers and suppliers of chemical substances are bracing themselves for the impact of REACH – the new chemical regulation introduced by the European Union.
Described in some quarters as possibly the most complex set of regulations issued by an international organisation, REACH may appear to be a minefield for those it affects. With so many factors to consider, the challenge for companies is gaining a thorough understanding of the implications that REACH will have on their business activities.
Here, Treatt provides a step-by-step guide on the scope of REACH regulation. The company offers insights from an EU-based company’s perspective, presents key considerations and helpful hints to get prepared for REACH. It demonstrates that with careful planning and preparation, REACH is not the daunting task it may seem.
REACH explained
REACH – the Registration, Evaluation, and Authorisation (and Restriction) of Chemicals – is the new European Union regulation which came into force on 1 June 2007. It replaces a number of European directives and regulations with a single system. It will apply to European chemical companies who manufacture and/or import chemicals substances into the EU in quantities of more than one tonne per legal entity.
The new regulation aims to generate data on the effects of chemical substances so that they may be used safely. Manufacturers and importers who place chemicals on the market will now be responsible for understanding and managing the risks associated with their use. This should result in a more innovative and competitive European chemical industry that also encourages the substitution of toxic chemicals with safer alternatives.
The key element of REACH regulation is the requirement for manufacturers or importers of chemicals to register them with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). A registration dossier will be supported by a standard data set on that substance. However, the data requirement for each substance will be dependent on the amount that is manufactured or supplied and the toxicity of the substance. So, the largest volume and most toxic substances will require the most data for their registration dossiers. If chemicals are not pre-registered and then registered; then there will no longer be able to market the substance.
Breadth of REACH
It cannot be denied that REACH regulation is extremely complex. A huge number of substances used in the flavour and fragrance industry will be affected by the new regulation. These include fragrance ingredients (eg aroma chemicals, essential oils and natural extracts), flavours in oral care products (eg mint oils), flavours in tobacco and isolated intermediates. There are some exclusions – substances deemed generally safe (eg water, corn oil), preparations (mixtures of substances / blends), flavour and food ingredients and additives, pharmaceutical ingredients and nonisolated intermediates. Essential oils and natural extracts are only included if they are used as flavour or fragrance ingredients in cosmetics.
D-days
With estimates showing around 30,000 substances supplied in quantities of one tonne or more per year on the European market, registering these items presents a significant challenge. To facilitate the process, the first phase is a pre-registration phase which provides companies with a six month window (from 1 June until 1 December 2008) to submit a limited amount of data to the ECHA. By submitting data within this period, companies will be able to benefit from the staggered registration periods set in REACH for phase-in substances.
The pre-registration phase is also in place to allow companies that manufacture or import the same substances to form groups or SIEF (substance information exchange forums) where data is shared to avoid duplication during the registration process.
Here, participants must agree on the classification and labelling of their substances. They must provide other participants with existing research, respond to information requests and collectively identify the need for future studies and arrange for them to be carried out. This is followed by registration, where manufacturers and importers submit information dossiers on substances to the ECHA. Registration is based on two parameters: quantity and toxicity. The timeframe for the process from pre-registration to the final phases of registration is a decade.
These initial deadlines have been set to ensure the most frequently-used and most toxic substances are assessed in the first phase. The substances and dossiers are then evaluated by the ECHA to confirm reliability of all submitted data and authorised for specified use. To place substances with properties that are deemed to be of “very high concern” on the market, an authorisation process must be applied for by 1 June 2009. A company wishing to market or use such a substance must submit an application to the ECHA. Authorisation is then decided by the European authorities.
Getting ready for REACH
Once the full scope of REACH has been understood, it is essential to assess the implications for product portfolios. A key consideration will be the potential need for reformulation – some substances may become unavailable if suppliers are unable to comply with the regulation.
Treatt’s range of products, for example, can be divided into three groups: essential oils and extracts, aroma chemicals and blends (or preparations as they are described in REACH). Each will be treated differently under REACH regulation.
Essential oils and extracts
By far the most complicated category, essential oils and extracts are referred to as Natural Complex Substances (NCS) within the industry or Substances of Unknown or Variable composition (UVCBs) under REACH. Many of these substances are imported into the EU in quantities greater than one tonne per year. The challenge for this category is that many of these substances have been used for hundreds of years, and as a result are generally recognised as safe. This means that the necessary test data has never been generated. Therefore, many companies possess the physicochemical data but lack testing facilities to produce the required human and environmental exposure data. The European Flavour & Fragrance Association and the European Federation of Essential Oils have formulated a plan to assist the industry in preparing for the registration of Natural Complex Substances. This is primarily through the formation of pre-consortia which pre-empt the substance information exchange forum described in the regulation. For the highest priority aroma chemicals and naturals, namely those requiring registration in 2010, this process has already started.
Aroma chemicals
Aroma chemicals can be considered ‘well defined substances’ – substances with a defined qualitative and quantitative composition that can be sufficiently identified based on the required identification parameters. Initial assessments have indicated that for importers and distributors of these substances, like Treatt, much of the required data is already available or will become available through data sharing.
However, assessment of volumes and supply lines will be necessary to determine which substances importers will need to register.
Preparations or blends
Although preparations or blends do not need to be registered under REACH, companies must record the substances in these preparations which are present in quantities greater than one tonne per year.
Implications for the supply chain
The impact of REACH will be felt throughout the supply chain. From raw material suppliers to end product manufacturers, everyone will be affected by the new regulation. Suppliers in the EU, for example, will now be assessed differently to those outside the EU who have no registration obligations. Suppliers outside the EU cannot register for REACH directly. They can, however, opt to nominate an ‘only representative’ – an EU-based representative of a non-EU manufacturer. Appointing an ‘only representative’, allows manufacturers to participate in the REACH process and ensures that they will be able to market their product directly in the EU. It also has advantages for EU importers. They are spared the task of registering the product under REACH and will be regarded as a downstream user.
Throughout the REACH process, customer needs should remain paramount. To maintain optimum customer service, Treatt, for example, has appointed a dedicated co-ordinator for REACH-related matters to respond to all customer and supplier queries. This contact is an in-house expert on the regulations, providing support to the technical, sales and purchasing teams on REACH-related matters, and assisting senior management in developing a company action plan.
The three Cs
Those affected by REACH should consider the three Cs when implementing an action plan – communication, confidentiality and costs. Communication is key. REACH preparation will rely on effective communication between sales, purchasing and regulatory departments. It will involve extensive training, data collection and migration. The finance department will also need to ensure sufficient funds are in place for testing, compensation of existing data holders and the registration process.
Secondly, confidentiality will be an issue with so much dialogue between different members of the supply chain. According to REACH, any details that undermine commercial interests will not be passed on but information relating to safety will never be confidential.
Finally, the costs of compliance will be significant. The authorities are making concessions mindful of the number of SMEs that will be affected. However, there will be financial implications at every stage of REACH that must be considered carefully.
Some of these costs may have to be passed along the supply chain, making it essential to keep abreast of any product margin developments that are business critical.
Summary
There is no doubt that REACH will have a huge impact on the European chemical industry. In fact, it has already had a huge affect on the flavour and fragrance industry; many competitors are finding ways to work together to reach a common goal.
However, despite its challenges, the regulation will offer significant benefits, improving safety and preserving the environment. With careful and advanced preparation, companies can ensure they comply with REACH and continue to run their business effectively and efficiently.

New natural distillates and fresh, zesty citrus flavours will be top of the bill for Treatt USA at this year’s IFT. As well as revealing the latest additions to its TreattaromeTM range of 100% natural FTNF (From The Named Food) distillates, the leading flavour ingredients supplier will also showcase its range of teas, many with a citrus twist. Other highlights will include a wide range of citrus oils, concentrates and fractions, as well as innovative CitreattTM natural, terpeneless oils.
New varieties from Treatt’s expanding portfolio of FTNF Treattarome ingredients will be unveiled at the show. Entirely water soluble, Treattarome distillates are suitable for a multitude of applications including beverages, dairy and confectionery products.
Treatt’s portfolio of specialty ingredients boasts concentrated and folded citrus oils, including highly volatile fractions, which provide intense, well-balanced citrus notes at extremely low doses. Visitors will be able to sample these products in specially formulated drinks with a citrus twist. The fractions are also suitable for soft and alcoholic drinks, isotonic beverages and juices. Other citrus products on show will include top notes to enhance and enliven drinks, plus highly concentrated citrus oils designed to add a fresh, juicy character to a range of applications.
Produced by careful concentration of cold pressed orange oils, FTNF Citreatt specialty citrus oils, with their high octanal content, retain their volatile flavour components, which results in a superior, natural flavour. Citreatt products exhibit high solubility in alcohol, making them particularly suitable for essence and beverage manufacture. Highlights will include Citreatt Lemon 3123, which delivers a juicy lemon flavour, and Citreatt Orange 6115 for a powerful orange flavour with enhanced aldehyde notes.
Treatt representatives will be available on stand #1323 throughout the show to discuss these ingredients plus others from its extensive portfolio.

Tuesday, February 27, 2007 A FRESH GREEN BREW FROM TREATT
|
Tuesday, February 27, 2007 A FRESH GREEN BREW FROM TREATT |
Treatt plc, the independent flavour and fragrance specialist, has expanded its 100% natural, FTNF TreattaromeTM range with the launch of the Green Tea TreattaromeTM 9767. Wholly distilled from green tea (Camellia sinensis), Green Tea Treattarome 9767 provides a well-rounded, full green tea flavour, with a fresh and green front end, finishing with the characteristic flavour that defines green tea.
Green Tea Treattarome 9767 is the result of extensive research and product trials. It is extracted from green tea using Treatt’s specialist, propriety technology. The freshly brewed, hay-like front end and typical green tea finish means Green Tea Treattarome 9767 can be used as the sole ingredient in ready-to-drink (RTD) tea. At lower doses it can provide a hint of green tea aroma to beverages, alcoholic drinks, dairy products and confectionery. It also lends itself to a range of fragrance applications, including cosmetics and perfumes.
As the tea leaves are already brewed, Green Tea Treattarome 9767 offers manufacturers major cost and time savings. It also reduces the clouding and sediment traditionally associated with RTD tea. Manufacturers also benefit from its compatibility with colouring agents, antioxidants and preservatives, and the fact that it provides easier handling than traditional tea powders.
The latest addition to the Treatt portfolio fits with the soaring popularity of green tea products amongst consumers.
Green Tea Treattarome 9767 compliments Treatt’s popular range of natural distillates, which already includes Tea Treattarome - Iced 9765, Black Tea Treattarome – Light 9760 and Black Tea Treattarome – Brewed 9761.

Global, independent flavour ingredient specialist, Treatt plc, has launched Habanero Pepper TreattaromeTM 9815. This latest addition to Treatt’s expanding range of 100% natural Treattarome ingredients is wholly distilled from fresh, top-grade habanero peppers, the hottest chilli pepper variety in the world. Beyond its piquancy, Habanero Pepper Treattarome 9815 offers flavourists an unusual and complex flavour profile suitable for a variety of applications.
Using specialist, proprietary technology, Treatt ensures maximum flavour extraction, capturing the habanero flavour without the heat usually associated with capsicum. Developers can therefore incorporate an authentic, well-rounded pepper flavour while controlling spice levels to suit their requirements. Dosage levels can also be varied to suit diverse flavour profiles. At 0.1%, for example, it offers an intense fresh, fruity habanero flavour, while at 0.01% or less, deep roasted pepper flavours can be achieved, which is enhanced by general tropical notes.
With spicy sauces becoming increasingly popular, successful applications for Habanero Pepper Treattarome 9815 include salsas and pepper sauces. However, with its tropical fruit front-end flavours, it is also an interesting addition to beverages.
Habanero Pepper Treattarome 9815 compliments the diverse range of savoury Treattarome products, which includes roasted red pepper, watercress, celery and green bell pepper varieties.

This latest addition to Treatt’s portfolio of FTNF (From the Named Food) clear distillates is wholly distilled from strawberries and imparts an authentic, fresh, fruity and well-rounded strawberry flavour to many food systems.
100% natural and water-soluble, Strawberry Treattarome 9855 is suitable for clear beverages, juices, alcoholic drinks and dairy products such as smoothies and ice creams. Thursday, August 17, 2006 COCOA TREATTEROME - A RICH AND CREAMY TREATT |
Global flavour and fragrance ingredients specialists, Treatt plc, has expanded its innovative range of 100% natural, high impact distillates with the launch of Cocoa Treattarome™ Dark 9900. This latest addition to the Treatt portfolio offers a well rounded, organic cocoa flavour to food and beverage systems.
Wholly distilled from cocoa (Theobroma Cacao), Cocoa Treattarome Dark 9900 delivers an authentic chocolate character with a creamy, nutty front end with powdered cocoa, white chocolate notes and a dark roasted finish. This is achieved through Treatt’s specialist manufacturing techniques which ensure maximum flavour extraction. Also, there is no extended heat processing which leads to lower flavour artefacts. Cocoa Treattarome Dark 9900 contains esters of acetic acid, a variety of pyrazines, 2-heptanone, 2-heptanol, phenyl acetaldehyde, Benzaldehyde and phenyl ethyl acetate.
Depending on the desired flavour profile, Cocoa Treattarome Dark 9900 can be used at varying dosage levels. For example, at 0.1% as a sole flavouring, it offers an intense chocolate character, while at 0.05% or less, a mild, creamy cocoa aroma is produced.
Cocoa Treattarome Dark 9900 is entirely water soluble and particularly suitable for clear beverages, alcoholic drinks, juices and dairy products. The relatively high levels of isoamyl acetate, methyl, tetra methyl, ethyl and numerous substituted pyrazines in cocoa mean it blends well with banana and other flavours used in beverages and milk shakes.

Global flavour and fragrance ingredients specialist, Treatt plc, has launched Raspberry Treattarome™ 9845 – the latest addition to its innovative range of 100% natural, FTNF (From the Named Food) distillates. Wholly-distilled from fresh raspberries, Raspberry Treattarome 9845 offers an authentic,
well-rounded raspberry flavour in a variety of food and beverage applications.
Raspberry Treattarome 9845 is produced from top grade raspberries using Treatt’s proprietary distillation techniques to guarantee maximum flavour entrapment. It provides a natural, fresh raspberry front end with some seedy notes and a fruity, slightly jammy finish for a full-bodied raspberry profile. At different dosages, Raspberry Treattarome 9845 delivers varying levels of flavour intensity depending on individual requirements. For example, at 0.1%, when used as the sole flavouring, an intense raspberry character with creamy, floral notes predominates. At 0.05% or less, it imparts a fruity, berry character.
A water white, high impact product, Raspberry Treattarome 9845 is particularly suitable for clear beverages. Other successful beverage applications include dairy and alcoholic drinks, juices and fruit punches. In addition, the relatively high levels of hexanol, cis-3-hexenol, 2-heptanol, linalool, gerianiol and beta ionone make Raspberry Treattarome 9845 an effective flavour to blend with tea.
Raspberry Treattarome 9845 is the latest addition to Treatt’s expanding portfolio of Treattarome ingredients. Other products in the range include blueberry, mango, banana and kiwi varieties.

Wednesday, May 31, 2006 TREATT BRINGS OUT THE BEST IN BLUEBERRIES |
Independent flavour and fragrance specialist, Treatt plc, has introduced Blueberry Treattarome™ 9840 to its expanding range of 100% natural, FTNF (From The Named Food) flavour ingredients. Wholly distilled from top grade, freshly cultivated berries, Blueberry Treattarome 9840 delivers a well-rounded, authentic and ripe blueberry flavour with a floral top note and a creamy, fruity finish to many food and drink systems.
Derived from the native American fruit (Vaccinium Corymbosum), Blueberry Treattarome 9840 is produced within ten minutes of the fruit being processed. To capture the maximum flavour and retain the freshness of the berry, Treatt uses specialised low temperature distillation technology. Blueberry Treattarome 9840 works well either as a sole flavouring or as an enhancer to existing flavour systems. For example, at 0.1%, it provides an intense blueberry character with fresh, floral and fruity top notes. At 0.01%, it adds a fruity berry character to fruit punches and other mixed drinks.
The clear appearance and water solubility of Blueberry Treattarome 9840 make it a highly versatile flavour ingredient, suitable for use in dairy products, soft drinks, fruit juices, teas and alcoholic beverages. Containing high levels of linalool, gernaiol and beta ionone, the distillate is also an easy way to add a fruity flavour to tea. Importantly, Blueberry Treattarome 9840 offers manufacturers a clean label declaration.
Blueberry Treattarome 9840 complements Treatt’s rapidly expanding selection of aqueous, FTNF distillates. Recent offerings include Mango Treattarome 9830 and Sugar Treattarome 9807.

Monday, July 12, 2004 MANGO – THE LATEST TROPICAL TREATT
|
Monday, July 12, 2004 MANGO – THE LATEST TROPICAL TREATT |
Global flavour ingredients specialists Treatt plc has extended its tropical Treattarome™ range with the launch of Mango Treattarome 9830. This latest addition to Treatt’s portfolio of 100% natural FTNF (From The Named Food) products is wholly distilled from fresh, tree-ripened mangoes and enables the creation of long-lasting, creamy, sweet mango flavours. Successful applications already include tropical fruit blends, clear beverages, ices and ice cream.
With more than 100 varieties of mangoes grown commercially worldwide, the mango is known to have many differing flavour characteristics. Some varieties have a fairly neutral or non-specific flavour and are cultivated principally for the colour and consistency of their flesh. Treatt’s selection of a single variety with a powerful and complex taste, enables it to produce a universally recognisable mango FNTF distillate, which is also consistent in its flavour profile. This is achieved through Treatt’s innovative and specialist technology.
The distillate contains high levels of fruity esters and lactones, plus spicy terpenes, underplayed with several sugary / caramel-like furanones. Mango Treattarome 9830 can be used at varying dosage levels, depending on the flavourist’s requirements and the degree of flavour intensity required. Mango Treattarome 9830 is effective, for example, either as a top note to enhance an existing flavour or to provide the main body of the flavour. At 0.1% an intense mango character predominates, whilst at levels of 0.05% or less, it imparts fresh, spicy, tropical notes, which is particularly effective when combined with fruit juices.
The Treattarome range of FTNF, water-soluble distillates are produced using a short duration, low temperature distillation process, which ensures maximum flavour entrapment, maintaining the character of the fresh food. Mango Treattarome 9830 complements Treatt’s existing portfolio of tropical flavour ingredients, which include guava, kiwi, banana, passion fruit and watermelon.

Tuesday, June 01, 2004 TREATT YOURSELF TO FINE FRAGRANCES AT WPC |
Treatt plc, stand 280, World Perfumery Congress, Cannes, 1 –5 June 2004
Leading fragrance ingredients specialist Treatt plc will be presenting a selection of products from its extensive portfolio at this year’s World Perfumery Congress in Cannes. Highlights will include citrus and non-citrus oils, natural innovative fractions, the Treattarome™ range, Treattarome™ derivatives and various specialty chemicals. Of particular interest are a number of new fragrance ingredients shown for the first time at WPC. These include the lemon and lime HV products as well as nitrogen and sulphur chemicals such as 2-Methyl-4-propyl-1,3-oxathiane with its distinctive passion fruit characteristics.
In view of recent legislation issues in Europe, Treatt’s new low allergen fragrance ingredients will be a key focus at the show. Developed using the company’s manufacturing and fractionation expertise, the range includes orange, lavender and petitgrain products.
Treatt's distillation skills will be further demonstrated by its HV products, in particular the lemon and lime varieties. Lemon and Lime HV are 100% natural specialty fractions, produced by capturing the highly volatile components from the fruit. The concentrated, zesty notes provided by these ingredients give freshness and lift to fragrance creations, and enhance the top note.

Thursday, October 23, 2003 TREATT - THE SAVOURY STOP AT FIE
|
Thursday, October 23, 2003 TREATT - THE SAVOURY STOP AT FIE |
Treatt plc, stand M884, Food Ingredients Europe 2003, Messe Frankfurt, Germany
18 – 20 November 2003
Visitors on the lookout for savoury flavour ingredients to stimulate the senses should stop at stand M884 at this year’s Fi Europe exhibition. All natural, vegetable-based distillates which impart high impact, fresh notes are the latest products to be launched by independent flavour ingredients specialist Treatt plc. Other highlights include a natural, spicy Black Pepper Distillate, plus the recently FEMA (Flavour and Extract Manufacturers Association) approved high impact flavour chemical,
3-Methyl-2,4-nonanedione.
Ideal for creative savoury applications, roasted bell pepper, watercress and celery are the most recent introductions to the TreattaromeTM range of FTNF (From The Named Food) natural distillates. Derived from premium quality, fresh vegetables, these
water-soluble ingredients can authentically enhance savoury flavour profiles. Their natural status also provides flavourists with the opportunity to cost-effectively enliven flavour blends, without affecting the ingredients label.
Roasted Bell Pepper Treattarome 9810, produced from fresh green, red and yellow peppers, imparts a characteristic, char-roasted, capsicum flavour, with grilled and astringent top notes. Distilled from fresh watercress, Watercress Treattarome 9820 has strong green, peppery and astringent cress notes with hints of butter, potato and onion. Celery Treattarome 9790 has a powerful sulphur character, with traces of green, nutty and creamy flavours. These novel ingredients complement Treatt’s rapidly expanding savoury compendium, which includes Cucumber Treattarome 9721, Tomato Treattarome 9722 and Green Bell Pepper Treattarome 9723.
Treatt will also be showcasing Black Pepper Distillate, a natural specialty with a characteristic freshly milled black pepper flavour. With a warm, spicy, fruity aroma, this specialty is also reminiscent of brown sugar and chocolate. Further savoury developments include the FEMA (#4057) approved status of
3-Methyl-2,4-nonanedione, which enables Treatt to offer this distinctive chemical to flavourists worldwide. Imparting hay-like green notes, 3-Methyl-2,4-nonanedione is found naturally occurring in dry green and black tea as well as dry parsley, and is suitable for use in tea, honey and parsley formulations.
To sample these, plus a selection of Treatt’s other products including essential oils, citrus specialties and high impact aroma chemicals, visitors should plan to call at stand M884. Representatives will also be on hand to offer expert advice and technical details on Treatt’s expansive product portfolio.
